The book doesn't really have any sub-plots. I guess it's because this book comprises of three stories. Stanely's story and two others. If  there were different sub-plots the book would get confusing for the reader. That's why I’m going to tell you more about the three different stories.

Four generations ago, in Latvia, Stanely's great great grandfather Elya Yelnats fell in love with a young girl called Myra Menke. She was beautiful but stupid. Still, he wanted to win Myra’s hear t and her father's pemison to marry her. He sought the help of old Madame Zeroni. In return for helping him, he was going to carry her up the mountain so that she could drink from a special spring one more time before she died. If he didn’t do as she requested, a curse would be put on him for the rest of his life.The courtship went wrong and a young  Elya in despair boarded a ship going to America. He was hoping for a new life and had forgotton all about Madame Zeroni curse. But he didn't care. He didn’t belive in curses anyway. He settled in America and after that, things never went right for Elya. Bad luck was passed on to the next generation. Elya’s son was making a fortune but lost all his money when he got robbed by Kate Barlow, the famous outlaw. The curse was passed on the the next generation and now the it had reached Stanley.

It’s  a mystery set in two different periods of time. The book takes place in the present, and about 100 years ago, switching inbetween Stanley, his great-great-grandfather and Kissin’ Kate Barlow, the famous outlaw.

She once lived in the town of Camp Green Lake. Her name was Katherine Barlow. She was a beautiful, young teacher who fell in love with the wrong man. He was black and called the onion man because he grew onions on the other side of  the lake. One day they were seen kissing and they both were sentenced to death. The onion man died but Katherine ran away and  never came back, at least not for some time. While she was on the run, she robbed different banks,  stole lots of  things and also killed many men. Years later when Camp Green Lake died, Katherine Barlow now known as the outlaw Kissin’Kate Barlow moved back. As far as I  now have read, it seems like Kate has hidden her treasuers somewhere under the grownd. The three stories all have something to to with each other  and  it’s starting to become very intresting towards the end.

There are now hundreds of holes dug across the dried-up lake bed. Stanley thinks the Warden must be looking for something. He had found a cylinder in the earth wich was engraved with the initials KB. Though the Warden claims the labour is character building Stanley knows she’s looking for something. That’s why they are digging. Wonder what the Warden is so anxous to find?

Now when I already have written about the three stories I actually can think of one sub-plot in the book. Stanley's dad has a collection of old sneakers. He is trying to come up with a way to recycle them. But he never seems to find a soulution. It's probably just another thing to show the reader that the family has a history of bad luck.

There once was a very large lake at Camp Green Lake, but there isn’t anymore. It was the largest lake in Texas. Nowday’s it’s nothing more than a dry flat waistland.  Stanley and the boy’s all live in grey tents namend A, B, C etc. There are seven or eight boy’s in each tent and they all have a cot each to sleep on.  The tents are dirty, the cots are rickety and the bed linnen doesn’t exactley smell like roses. There is one room for them to enjoy themselves in. But all the things in there were either torn, smashed or broken in one way or another.
There are some little animals who live in the red-brown dirt. The boy’s have been told to watch out for these animals. There are some extremely dangerous lizards and snakes out there in the waistland. Some of them will kill you in a minute.

It never rains at Camp Green Lake and the temperature is exorbitantly hot. The boy’s live under bad conditions out there. They don’t get much water or food. The camp is located so far away from civilization that no fences are needed incase they were to run away.  'Nobody runs away from here. We don't need a fence. Know why? Because we've got the only water for a hundred miles. You want to run away? You'll be buzzard food in three days.( Holes page 15)

I’ve just started to read ”Holes” which is a book written by Louis Sachar. The book is about Stanley Yelnast who is a pudgy kid from Texas. As far as i´ve come in he book, Stanley get’s arrested for stealing a pair of sneakers which belong to a famous baseball player, Clyde Livingstone. Stanley is innocent of the crime but is convicted anyway. His punishment is a choice between jail or camp green lake. Stanley choses Camp green lake and it’s not quite what he expected it to be like. It’s a camp in the middle of nowhere. The campers get to dig holes. That’s their sentence. They dig holes all day long in the dryest and hottest place you could possably imagine.

The book starts off with a text describing the camp. Later on, you get introduced to Stanley when he’s on the bus travelling to Camp green lake. Stanley seems to be a bit of a maverick. He doesn’t have many friends because of his weight and from what i have read, I can tell that he’s probably quite shy and I think he’s going to have a pretty hard time in the camp. I'll just have to wait and see.

Vi fick i uppgift att ta en bild från en plats i Göteborg och lämna ett eget "avtryck" i bilden man tagit.
Jag gick till Torp. Det första man såg när man kom till Torp var ett blått skjul och platsen var lite "unken". Det var en "ghetto" känsla över det hela och klotter fanns på väggar, soptunnor, lycktstolpar, i stort sett överallt. Det låg skräp och det var även ganska smutsigt i Trop. Jag gick in i det sliutna blåa skjulet och möttes av sönderklottrade väggar. Då kändes det rätt att ta ett kort på det.

Här är bilden efter att jag gjort om den. Jag använde mig av photo shop och ändrade lite i kontrasterna och ljuset. sedan la jag ett filter över bilden så att det såg mer "tecknat" eller animerat ut. Efter det klippte jag in en animerad man som såg lite "ghetto" ut. Nedanför honom la jag sedan till två spray brukar så att det ser ut som om han precis klottrat. Jag la sedan till en ljus efekt så att det ser ut som om en strålkastare riktas mot honom. Precis som om någon upptäkt att han klottrat.

Även här är en bild av citatet från boken. Här har jag målat Hat och Kärlek. Blair både älskar Serena och hatar henne jag valde

Uppgiften var att illustrera ett citat ur en bok. Jag läste Gossip girl och citatet är "Hon kunde tydligen inte komma undan, Serena fanns överallt" Citatet speglar sig boken väldigt bra tycker jag. Det säger tex att någon är populär och att någon inte är det. Någon är svartsjuk osv. I detta fallet så är det Blair som är svartsjuk på Serena eftersom hon "fanns överallt." Hon är populärare än Blair och allas blickar dras till Serena. Brevid Serena är Blair inget mer en en vanlig tjej. Jag har målat Serena som står i spotlight och Blair som ä som knuffas åt sidan och samtidit ser vilken uppmärksamhet Serena får trots alla rykten som går om henne. Jag valde att måla bilden i akvarell för att jag tycker det är en teknik som är fin och jag brukar inte använda mig av akvarell. Jag målade med blått i mitten för att jag ville skapa en kylig känsla mellan tjejerna. Serena fick varma färger runt omkring sig för att hon är populär och hon sprider värme. Blair däremot har jag satt i kanten med en liten grå ton eftersom i Serenas närhet blir on osynlig. "En grå skugga." Men på andra sidan då Serena inte syns så är hon fortfarande en ganska populär tjej.
